A Beginner's Guide to EspaƱol

2025/5/12: Whereas Japanese is the language I have the strongest grasp of, Spanish is what I'm actively pursuing, so my initial foundational study methods are a lot fresher in my head.

There is a common sentiment I've seen amongst those with a passing interest in learning a language who have yet to take the actual steps to do so: Spanish is too easy. Take it from someone who taught themselves how to speak and read Japanese and is currently on the path to acquiring Spanish: There is no easy language. Is Spanish easier to learn for an English speaker than Japanese? Absolutely, we share plenty of words, phrases, and euphamisms, not to mention a shared alphabet. That doesn't make it easy, you're still talking about dedicating a substantial portion of your time every day to watching, reading, and studying the language, with the ultimate goal of rewiring your brain to subconsciously understand a different way of speaking and thinking; it's a long haul project that you need to be ready for. But enough pessimism!
